Due to the growing success of and increasing visitor numbers at the Cartoonmuseum Basel, the Christoph Merian Foundation decided in June 2026 to support a modest expansion of staff and provide additional premises from 2027 onwards.

At St. Alban-Vorstadt 15, just a short distance from the museum, we have found new premises that will enable us to significantly expand and further develop our educational and public engagement programmes.

In a former carpentry workshop, approximately 300 square metres of space are being transformed into facilities for education and outreach, exhibition preparation, and office work. These new spaces will allow us to provide deeper access to exhibition content, develop innovative educational formats, and actively engage a wide range of audiences. The workshop character of the former carpentry studio will be consciously preserved: a place for drawing, research, discussion, and creative development.

These new facilities form an ideal complement to the 2027 exhibition programme, which once again explores the social, artistic, and narrative power of comic art.
